The HERD Foundation is proud to announce it has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, to support the Mathews Elementary School Playground Project. This competitive grant was secured through the dedicated efforts of the HERD Foundation to bring a playground to students at Mathews Elementary School.
In addition to this grant, the project has also been promised a generous donation of $10,000 from VEC/Valley Electrical Consolidated. This donation comes in part through the support of Josh Patrick, a proud alumnus of Mathews Local Schools and an employee of VEC. These contributions bring the total funds raised by the HERD Foundation to $37,000, thanks to the combined efforts of grants, donations, and local fundraising initiatives.
“Our goal is to foster imaginative play, creativity and physical well-being in a safe and inclusive environment. Playgrounds are not just for fun. They also help improve concentration and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and resilience,” said Beth Haddle with the HERD Foundation.
The HERD Foundation is continuing its fundraising efforts through the HERD Brick Project, offering community members the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by purchasing personalized bricks to be installed at the school.
