Mathews Elementary School's fifth-grade students experienced the sweet side of learning today as teacher Janice Lucas transformed math lessons into a festive gingerbread adventure. In preparation for the hands-on activity, students have been tackling gingerbread-inspired math problems.
For over a decade, Lucas has incorporated gingerbread-themed lessons into her curriculum, encouraging students to budget for a gingerbread kit and calculate the area, perimeter and volume of their edible creations. This beloved tradition wouldn’t be possible without the support of parents, who follow a special recipe provided by the school to make the icing that holds the gingerbread masterpieces together!
